The pianist, composer, conductor and university professor blurs the lines between jazz and classical music. Her “standalone music” (Downbeat) merges these two worlds to create her own unique sound.
Maria Baptist composes equally for jazz and symphonic ensembles, writes for jazz bands as well as for string quintets. As a solo pianist, she improvises with the same ease as she conducts a big band.
From Hong Kong to New York, from Copenhagen to Stellenbosch, Maria Baptist presents her compositions at the most internationally prestigious jazz and classical music stages. She has documented her award-winning music on 17 albums.

Without art, life is meaningless, music nourishes our souls, inspires us to resonate with the universe. Music builds bridges of understanding, of community and, in its inexhaustible diversity, has a fundamental significance in our society. When my music touches people emotionally and intellectually and the focus is on the present moment, on the „Here & Now“, then there is a chance for a deeper connection with each other. Something we need today more than ever.
